Well, it was great to get two wins on the road tonight. Aberavon is never an easy place to go and win but the kids put everything that they’ve learnt over the past couple of weeks into practice.
It was great to see the confidence grow in the development team. We mixed it up and tried a few kids in different positions tonight and the experiment seemed to pay off.
The first game was full of grit and determination and the younger kids in the squad showed that they are certainly getting to grips with the new rules. Whilst playing against kids a year older than they are, and at the same time having to deal with the ruck, scrums and line-outs it’s amazing to think that they’ve only being doing this for a couple of weeks.
We carried the ball well and also offloaded well in the tackle. We kept our shape out wide too and got the tries as just reward for all our hard work. We were relentless and threw the kitchen sink at Aberavon, who, to their credit never gave up. It was eight tries to nil at the final whistle and we were so proud of our little warriors.
Plenty to work on in training though but give yourselves a massive pat in the backs kids 👍.
The second game was a success too but we took a little longer to get into our stride. We managed to cross first but Aberavon had some serious gas out wide and certainly tested our defence.
We kept knocking at the door and did manage to break them down and get behind them. However, their defence was resolute and they managed to keep us out. We struggled to maintain our shape and got the ball out wide before going forward first.
Our handing was also a bit rusty and we put a few passes down in midfield. Aberavon kept coming at us and scored a lovely try out wide ending the first half 10–10.
We talked to the boys about what we’d done in training and asked them to trust their systems. After the ‘Alex Ferguson Hair Dryer’ treatment in the sheds at half time the boys were determined to come away with the ‘W’.
From the moment the whistle went to start the second half, the boys worked hard to keep Aberavon pinned in their 22. They certainly went up a notch and managed to score six unanswered tries in the second half to come away with a 40-10 win. Aberavon fought till the end though and made our life as difficult as possible at Harlequin Road.
We are looking forward to travelling to

Broadacre on Saturday to take on Swansea Schoolboys for the Peninsular Cup.
