We were on the road again today. This time it was to face DC Thomas Semi finalists, Rhymney Valley. I knew that this would be another stern test for us and they didn’t disappoint!
We had a fabulous welcome at my old club Bargoed RFC and ‘Sir’ Mr Tim Jones addressed the parents and kids before they took the field.
Please indulge me and allow me to say a few words about Tim if I may.
Apparently he shared a few tales about me when I played as a young kid. It’s amazing that he’s still coaching after almost 50 years at the helm. What an achievement and what a bloke! I’ve always had, and still have the utmost respect for him. We all learnt so much from him as young kids and he’s the best coach I’ve had the pleasure to know. Tim, I hope for the sake of Welsh rugby that you continue coaching for as long as possible. Da Iawn Sir!!
Rhymney Valley won the toss and elected to kick off. They started much stronger than us and we were slow to the party. They scored some nice trys before we woke up and managed to get some possession and build some pressure. We were chasing the game at half time but did manage to put some decent phases of play together and score a few nice trys of our own. Rhymney Valley kept coming at us though and proved too strong for us on the day.
The second game was more of an even contest and we battled throughout, exchanging trys but once again, the red and black wall of Rhymney Valley proved difficult to break down. There was some amazing rugby in show and it’s great to see these kids improving every week.
You can watch the games here:
We’ve got a big game to prepare for in a couple of weeks time where we play local rivals Swansea Schoolboys at St Helens for the Peninsular Cup. Pleas try your best to get to training so we have the best chance of upsetting the party!

See you all in training next week. 👍
