Welcome to the 2022/3 Squad

Welcome kids, mums & dads to the Llwchwr Family!

“Congratulations” to the kids. It’s a MASSIVE honour to be selected for a district side. Well done boys and girls. You are going to have an AMAZING season, I promise!!

As Regan said, this will be an incredible opportunity for the kids to develop and to get their first stab at competitive rugby. We’ve got a bit more time to get organised this year and so there are no excuses from us as coaches. We have a packed calendar, which includes loads of friendlies, the DC Thomas Cup (the final of which is played at the Principality Stadium), The Peninsular Cup, which is played against local rivals Swansea Schoolboys, the Phil Sterio memorial cup and a Seven-a-side tournament too. So loads of rugby to fit in.

We have a simple motto at Llwchwr SRU and that is “Attitude is Everything”. We will have a chat to the kids about this and what it means when we first get together at our home of Penclawdd RFC.

As a group of coaches we will be bring our best endeavours to develop these kids and we have two very defined goals. The first goal is to make every single one of them a better rugby player by the end of the season. The second, is to allow the kids to experience the social side of the game and form lifelong friendships. Both goals are equally important to us as a coaching team.

We recognise the importance of the social side of rugby and as a result we will be putting together some events to bring the kids together and help bond the team. The boys from last years’ team have formed some special friendships and it was great to see kids from rival clubs and schools come together last year. Whilst not compulsory, we hope that you make every effort to attend these events.

Our first event will be a FREE BBQ at Penclawdd Rugby Club and we’d like all kids and their parents to attend. I will post the details on the website as soon as we have the date confirmed.

Communication

Website

Our primary form of communication will be the LLSRU Website. The website will have all the information that you need including fixtures, squad announcements and all social events. The website is a members only site and you will need to register in order to be able to see some of the information on the site. This is where all the amazing photos and videos will be posted too.

The website will be updated with this years’ squad members this week as soon as all players have been registered.

WhatsApp

There will also be a WhatsApp group (the one you are reading this in) and we will signpost information in here. However, the main form of communication will always be the website.

Player Registration

We need all kids to register for the WSRU and parents or guardians will need to sign a declaration. I will make this as easy as possible and have put together an electronic form that can be signed online. Please complete this asap so that we can get your player registered. All data is encrypted and held in accordance with GDPR.

Kit

We are very proud of the fact that our kids were given a load of kit last year. We are in the process of securing sponsorship so that we can keep the cost to parents as low as possible. The kit that we will provide to all players will include:

• A Playing Jersey

• A Hoodie

• A Wet Weather SMOCK

• A Shirt

• A Llwchwr Tie

• A Llwchwr Cap

This kit costs over £160 per kid but we will heavily subsidise this with sponsorship so no kid has to miss out.
